You Need At Least Five Guys to Play a 2-3 Zone

Tuesday January 29, 2008
At this rate, Jim Boeheim's famous 2-3 zone might become a 2-2. Or a 2-1. That's because Syracuse lost yet another player -- this time to suspension -- before The Orange's game against Providence on Sunday.

Freshman Scoop Jardine was suspended for a violation of university policy, joining Eric Devendorf and Andy Rautins (knee injuries), Josh Wright (left the team) and center Devin Brennan-McBride (shoulder) on the list of unavailable Orangemen. Syracuse played the game with just seven available scholarship players -- making their 71-64 victory all the more impressive.

If this keeps up, Boeheim might have to consider getting some minutes out of Otto the Orange. (Otto doesn't have much of a perimeter game, but he really takes up space in the middle of the zone.)
