Evening Games: Carolina, Siena, Oklahoma, Mississippi State
(13) Siena 83, (4) Vanderbilt 62: Live by the three, die by the three. Vandy earned a spot in the top 25 and a win over number one Tennessee largely on the strength of their perimeter shooting. Tonight, they ran into a hotter set of shooters in the Siena Saints. The MAAC champions hit 9-of-20 from three -- Tay Fisher was six-for-six -- while the Commodores hit just four of 21 (.190).
(6) Oklahoma 72, (11) Saint Joseph's 64: Oklahoma built up a big lead thanks to the unlikely contribution of David Godbold. Godbold averages under seven points per game, but chipped in a team-leading 25 tonight, including the Sooners' first 11 points of the second half, and did an excellent job defending Hawks leading scorer Pat Calathes. St. Joe's mounted a furious charge to make things close, but couldn't find a way to defend Blake Griffin on the low block down the stretch.
(8) Mississippi State 76, (9) Oregon 69: Bulldog forward Charles Rhodes powered Mississippi State to a win, scoring 34 points -- just over twice his season average -- on remarkably efficient 10-of-12 shooting from the field and 14-of-18 from the line. No other player on either team had more than eight free throw attempts.
