The Team that Stood Up to Hitler
Wednesday August 20, 2008

The 1936 LIU Blackbirds were big favorites to win spots on the US Olympic basketball team -- but they boycotted the tryouts as a protest of Nazi Germany's anti-Jewish policies. Read the story of the team that stood up to Hitler.

Oh wow. That was honorable of them. Great picture and article.
What an inspiration of those who are willing to stand for what is right.
Happy WW!
What an amazing story! This team should serve as an inspiration. But it seems as though too few of us have the courage to stand up for our beliefs nowadays. What do others think?
Good for them! It’s so inspiring when people put their principles ahead of the lure of gold.
Did they not have anyone on the bench? It’s a five-man team?
These fellows are heroes in my book! Standing up for our convictions can seem hard, but throughout their lives these men can look back and say, “we did the right thing.” Further, they also, even now so many years later, serve as examples to those who know of them and their decision. Thank you, Charlie, for telling us about them!
Interesting story. Thanks for posting it.
That’s an amazing story.
Thanks for sharing it. Very timely, and for more than just the Olympics!
