Tim Floyd Resigns

Wednesday June 10, 2009
USC coach Tim Floyd has resigned amidst accusations that he bribed an associate of ex-Trojan guard O.J. Mayo.

The allegations, which stem from an ongoing investigation of improper benefits Mayo may have received from so-called "street agents," came to light last month. Floyd is accused of slipping one of Mayo's associates an envelope containing over $1000.

Floyd told the USC administration that he "no longer had full enthusiasm" for the job. He has yet to comment publicly on the investigation.

What's Next for USC?

It'll be tough sledding for the Trojans next season. They're losing starters Demar DeRozan, Daniel Hackett and Taj Gibson to the NBA Draft, and at least three recruits have decided against signing with USC recently, in part due to the pending investigations.

They're getting a very late start on their coaching search -- most coaching changes happen within a month of the end of the season -- and will be forced to make a hire while major NCAA penalties loom in the background.

My guess? They'll name an interim head coach for the 2009-10 season, work on getting through the NCAA investigation, and make a hire next Spring.
