Could Rick Pitino's indiscretions cost him his job? That's far from clear at this point... but Louisville apparently has the option to hand him his walking papers.
The Louisville Courier-Journal reports that Pitino's contract contains a morals clause, which gives the university the right to terminate his contract for "acts of moral depravity." That's pretty open-ended, but I'm guessing "married father of five having drunken sex in a bar with a random woman" would fit the bill. But the administration isn't looking to can the coach -- not yet, anyway. Asked earlier today if Pitino's actions violated the terms of his contract, university president James Ramsey said, "I am not going to speculate."
That's pretty open-ended too, huh?
On the off chance that you're at all interested, you can read Pitino's employment contract in its entirety. It's a real page-turner.
