Those of us who are wondering how the Grizzlies will fit Allen Iverson into their rotation will have to wait a little while longer; a MRI revealed a partial tear in Iverson's left hamstring yesterday, which will sideline AI for at least three weeks.
The Grizzlies open the season on October 28 against the Detroit Pistons. That's not exactly a "Brett Favre vs. the Packers" revenge story, but you can be sure AI is hoping to play against his former mates and show up Detroit general manager Joe Dumars. Iverson recently accused Dumars and the Pistons of lying about their plans and his role on the team.
Iverson was traded from the Nuggets to the Pistons just two games into the 2008-09 season.
Fantasy Implications
That's an important three weeks for Iverson to miss; he won't be available for the remainder of the preseason, won't have a chance to get acclimated to the Grizzlies' offense or comfortable with his new teammates. On the other hand, it gives O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley Jr., an opportunity to show that they deserve the starting spots in Memphis' backcourt.
