The replacement referees working last night's Pistons/Bucks preseason game made a real mess of a foul call. Luckily, Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince was there to clean things up.
Here's how it broke down:
- Milwaukee forward Ersan Ilyasova was fouled on a shot attempt and awarded two freebies.
- Watching a replay during the next timeout -- about 90 seconds later -- the refs decided that Ilyasova's shot attempt was from behind the arc
- The referees awarded Ilyasova a third free throw
Problem is: according to the rule book, referees can only correct that particular error if they catch it within 24 seconds. Prince had to remind last night's refs of that fact -- and then remind them to ask the scorer's table to take a point off the score board.
