No Deal for Rondo
Rajon Rondo won't sign a contract extension with the Boston Celtics, which will make him a restricted free agent next summer, Yahoo! Sports reports.
According to the report, Rondo is looking for a contract that would place him among the five highest-paid players at his position -- Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Chauncey Billups and Baron Davis. Boston isn't biting on that offer... which isn't really a surprise. After all, the Celtics have a ton of cash tied up in "The Big Three" and Rasheed Wallace -- about $60 million this season, $46 million in 2010-11. And Boston management isn't necessarily sold on Rondo in the long-term -- Danny Ainge spent a good portion of the summer shopping the talented point guard.
Ordinarily, restricted free agents don't draw a ton of attention. Last summer, players like David Lee, Nate Robinson and Raymond Felton sat around waiting for contract offers that never materialized. That could change in the summer of 2010. With players like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the market, lots of teams will have open wallets -- and a top young point guard like Rondo is sure to draw lots of attention.
