Some people might get tired of the constant barrage of media questions asking what he'll do next season.
LeBron James, I think, is enjoying the attention.
If not, why would he take out a full-page ad in the New York Daily News, thanking the fans for welcoming him back to the city?
The copy reads:
Dear New York.
Thank you for welcoming me back to New York City, one of my favorite places to play in the world. The Big Apple has always been good to me so I wanted to do somethign special to show my appreciation.
With this in mind, on November 7, 2009, I'm going to open seven gyms around NYC to host free open runs for high-school aged players, I remember being in high school and just wanting to play ball as the seasons changed from fall to winter. The Ohio winter made it tough to play outside so I always saw the opportunity to play in a nice gym as a gift.
It is in giving that I've found the most strength, whether it's on the court with my teammates or at home with my family. In giving this gift of the game to New York City, I want to share that strength with the people who love the game as much as I do.
Peace.
LeBron James
The ad goes on to list the gyms that will host open runs -- Long Island University and Ebbets Field Middle School in Brooklyn, John Jay College, Boys & Girls Republic, Hunter College and Asphalt Green in Manhattan and Lost Battalion Hall in Queens. It ends, predictably, with a big Nike swoosh.
Doesn't it seem like he's enjoying all the "will-he-or-won't-he" speculation? I'm starting to think he'll just sign a one-year contract somewhere, so he can do this all over again in the summer of 2011.
Hey LeBron -- just a suggestion: if you really want to give a gift to the fans of New York, sign with the Knicks next summer. It seems reasonable to suspect that your Cavs aren't winning a championship this season anyway -- not after you got held to 85 points in your home arena by the Chicago Bulls.
King James and the Cavs play at Madison Square Garden tonight -- their only visit to New York of the season. The next barrage of "Will the Knicks get LeBron stories" should be hitting the Internet right about... now.
