The league's worst team met one of the best on Sunday night, and the result was exactly what you'd expect. The Lakers came away with a 106-87 win; the Nets lost their 17th straight and landed in a three-way tie for the worst start in NBA history.
Odds are they'll set a new record on Wednesday night. Their next opponent: the 12-5 Dallas Mavericks, led by ex-Net Jason Kidd.
The Nets were coached by Tom Barisse, who took over on an interim basis after Lawrence Frank was let go on Sunday. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with 30 points. Second-year center Brook Lopez -- whose strong play has been one of the only bright spots for the Nets this year -- led New Jersey with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
