Four Boston Celtics - guards Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen and forwards Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were elected as all-star reserves by the NBA's coaches. Also added to the Eastern Conference squad: Atlanta Hawks Al Horford and Joe Johnson and Miami's Chris Bosh.
The Western Conference reserves include Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili of the Spurs, the Lakers' Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki of the Mavericks, Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz and two first-time all-stars, Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook and Los Angeles Clippers rookie sensation Blake Griffin.
All-Star Snubs
There really weren't any major snubs in the East. The most deserving players left off the team are probably Carlos Boozer of the Bulls and Raymond Felton of the Knicks -- but Boozer missed a large chunk of the season, and Felton's production has tailed off in January. (Many Knick fans are glad Felton wasn't honored -- he could probably use a little rest.)In the West, there are a few players with legitimate complaints -- particularly Kevin Love. Love is the league's leading rebounder by a wide margin, and is averaging over 21 points per game. Of course, his candidacy is hurt by Minnesota's dismal record; the T-Wolves are 11-37 as of February 4. The coaches' oversight was rectified when Love was added to the roster as Yao Ming's replacement.
Portland's LaMarcus Aldridge and Golden State's Monta Ellis have legitimate gripes as well.
At least one additional all-star will be added to the Western Conference roster, to replace Yao Ming. Love would be a fine choice, but the early buzz suggests that Steve Nash will be Yao's stand-in. Either Pau Gasol (the home-crowd favorite) or Tim Duncan (whose coach will make the ultimate decision) will replace Yao in the starting lineup.
All-Star Coaching Staffs
The all-star teams are led by the staffs from the teams with the best records in the Eastern and Western conferences. This year, the San Antonio Spurs staff - led by head coach Gregg Popovic - will help the West, and Doc Rivers' Boston Celtics staff will lead the East.2011 NBA All-Star Rosters
