For the first time in over 30 years, the Atlantic Coast Conference is offering tickets to the ACC Tournament for sale to the general public.

The move is being portrayed as a sign of the tough economic climate, and that's certainly one factor. But a change in venue makes a significant difference. The ACC Tournament is usually played at the cozy Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina -- with a seating capacity of 23,000.

The Georgia Dome's capacity was more than twice that -- 53,000 seats -- when it served as host to the 2007 Final Four.

Tickets will be sold in books that include access to all eleven games of the tournament, and will be available from Ticketmaster starting on March 3.

Tournament Format

All twelve member teams participate in the tournament, seeded according to regular-season conference record. On day one, the teams that finish the regular season fifth through twelfth face off -- five plays twelve, six plays eleven, etc. -- for the right to move on.

The top four teams get a bye for the first round. On day two, the top seed plays the winner of the 5/12 game, the second seed plays the winner of the 6/11 game and so on.
