The V Foundation

Named for Jim Valvano, coach of North Carolina State's legendary NCAA championship team, the V Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds for cancer research.

Coaches vs. Cancer

Probably the most prominent charity associated with college hoops, Coaches vs. Cancer is a joint effort by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society.

Think Pink

"Think Pink" is an effort by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association to raise awareness -- and funds -- in the fight against breast cancer.

Autism Speaks

Several big-time basketball coaches, most notably Connecticut's Jim Calhoun and Isiah Thomas of the NBA's New York Knicks, are often seen wearing the iconic Autism Speaks jigsaw-puzzle piece lapel pin while patrolling the sidelines.

Samaritan's Feet

Promoted extensively by IUPUI coach Ron Hunter, Samaritan's Feet seeks to change the lives of impoverished children by providing shoes to those who would otherwise go without.

Nothing But Nets

Promoted extensively by Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly, Nothing but Nets is a charity that seeks to provide life-saving mosquito netting to malaria-ridden areas in Africa.

The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation

Connecticut's Jim Calhoun is an honorary board member of this organization, which is dedicated to finding a cure for Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes.
