Karl Malone was known as "The Mailman" throughout his career. That nickname became a mixed blessing. During game one of the 1997 NBA Finals, as Malone was stepping to the free-throw line, Scottie Pippen taunted him, saying, "The mailman doesn't deliver on Sundays."
Malone missed both freebies, Pippen secured a place in the trash-talk hall of fame, and the Bulls went on to win the game 84-82.
Malone finished his career with 36,928 points - second only to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA's all-time scoring list, and is generally regarded as one of the top power forwards ever to play the game.
He also holds a less-impressive record - he's the NBA's all-time leader in turnovers.
He was voted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.
