2009 NCAA Tournament: Elite Eight Recap

Connecticut, Villanova, Michigan State and North Carolina Advance

Pittsburgh and Villanova gave the tournament a signature game, Michigan State gives the Final Four a "home" team, and the top teams from the preseason maintain that status.

The Game of the Tournament

This year's March Madness has been a little light on the "Mad" -- the biggest "Cinderella" was a 12-seeded Pac 10 team that has made the tournament every year for the last quarter century. But Pittsburgh and Villanova did their level best to bring back the drama with an epic East Regional Final.

O-ver Ra-ted (Clap-Clap Clap Clap Clap)

The Louisville Cardinals were thoroughly exposed by Michigan State, held to a mere 52 points by the Spartans' tough defense, after scoring 103 on Arizona in the previous round.

The Spartans advance to the Final Four, which will be played a mere 90 miles from their East Lansing campus.

The Preseason Polls were Right

Before this season even began, North Carolina and Connecticut were the consensus top picks in all the polls. Apparently, the voters knew what they were talking about. Carolina is back in the Final Four for a record 18th time. The Huskies are making the third trip in school history -- the last two trips ended in a championship.
