Profile:

The nephew of Beach Boys singer Mike Love, it seems like destiny that Kevin Love would play his college ball in sunny California.

Love arrived at UCLA with a tremendous pedigree. His father, Stan Love, was an NBA player with the Bullets, Lakers and ABA Spurs in the early '70s. As a high schooler, Love became the all-time leading scorer in Oregon high school history - toppling a record that had stood for fifty years, despite the fact that he missed half of his sophomore season. Love's summer team, the Southern California All-Stars, ran the table in AAU play, amassing a 45-0 record. The Bruins, mindful of Love's potential, have allowed him to wear uniform number 42 - with the permission of UCLA great Walt Hazzard, for whom the number was retired.

A highly skilled 6' 10" center whose game has been compared to that of another Bruin great, Hall of Famer Bill Walton, Love has been as good as advertised thus far, leading the Bruins to a 7-1 record and the and the seventh spot in the AP Top 25 poll. He's averaging 17.3 points, 9.9 boards and 2.4 assists and shooting 57% from the floor.

NBADraft.net projects Love as the 16th overall pick in next year's NBA draft.
