Profile:

Basketball fandom fell in love with Stephen Curry -- and his picture-perfect jump shot -- during the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Curry's sharpshooting led the SoCon champs to wins over Gonzaga, Georgetown and Wisconsin -- the super-soph scored 30 or more in each of those wins. Davidson's Cinderella run ended in the elite eight against eventual champion Kansas, with Curry scoring 25 in the loss.

Returning to Davidson for his junior season meant new challenges.

  • Ever-increasing expectations -- winning the SoCon just won't cut it any more...
  • Notoriety -- the Wildcats aren't sneaking up on anyone any more...
  • A position change -- with the graduation of last year's point guard, Jason Richards, Curry took on the added responsibility of running the offense as point guard.
The results? So far, so good. Through ten games, Curry is averaging over 30 points per game along with 6.7 assists. He's topped 40 points three times, setting a new career high of 44 against Oklahoma in the Preseason NIT and matching that number in a win over NC State on December 6. His NBA Draft stock is soaring, and he's a legitimate candidate for college basketball's highest individual honor, the Wooden Award.
