Future NCAA Stars take Silver for Team USA at U18 Tournament of the Americas

Davidson's Bob McKillop Led Under-18 National Team

By , About.com Guide

Some 2008's top incoming freshmen -- including future Connecticut Husky Kemba Walker, UCLA recruit Malcolm Lee, Alabama's JaMychal Green and Kansas' Travis Releford -- headlined the Team USA roster attempting to defend its gold medal at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men, July 14-18 in Formosa, Argentina.

Led by Walker -- named Tournament MVP -- and Green, who posted several double-doubles -- Team USA advanced to the championship before losing to host Argentina, 77-64, in the gold medal game.

The loss was only Team USA's U18 squad's second in six tournaments. The U18 National Team has traditionally dominated this event, amassing a 33-2 overall tournament record and winning the gold in 1990, 1994, 1998 and as the host country in 2006. The 2002 team placed third.

The team was coached by Bob McKillop of Davidson, with Georgetown's John Thompson III and Virginia Commonwealth's Anthony Grant.
