Profile:

Dominic Cheek is a dream recruit for any coach. On sheer talent he'd be near the top of the class of 2009 rankings. An excellent outside shooter -- Cheek served as the primary three-point threat for Team USA at the FIBA U-18 Tournament of the Americas -- a skilled defender, and an excellent rebounder from the backcourt.

The fact that Cheek is considered a fundamentally-sound ballplayer shouldn't be a surprise. He plays high school ball at St. Anthony's in Jersey City for legendary coach Bob Hurley. St. Anthony's has produced a host of elite college basketball talent, including Terry Dehere (Seton Hall), Rodrick Rhodes (Kentucky), Roshown McLeod (Duke) and Hurley's sons Danny (Seton Hall) and Bobby (Duke).

Observers differ a bit on Cheek's potential to make an immediate impact at the next level. Some point to his rail-thin frame and suggest he'll need to bulk up a bit before he can become an elite scorer in Division I. Others point to his all-around game, length and athleticism and make comparisons to Tayshaun Prince -- the Kentucky star and starting small forward for the Detroit Pistons.

Villanova-Bound

Cheek has announced that he intends to play for Villanova, selecting the Wildcats over Kansas. He'll join a recruiting class that most observers consider to be the best in the Big East and one of the top five in the nation.
