From the article: Women in the NBA?
NBA Commissioner David Stern is on record as thinking there's "a good possibility" that women will play in the NBA. Is he right? Is he wrong? Did he mean it, or was he trying to build up the struggling WNBA? Share Your Thoughts

If a girls has the skills, why not?

If a girl has the skills to be in NBA then why not? I believe that if one has the will to succeed, regardless of female or male, can push beyond their natural limits to achieve their dream. Besides, basketball is not just about physcial strength, skills and team work plays a important role. To Joe Harris, what do you mean by NO RIGHT to play and "destroy the integrity of the game". If a girl is skilled enough to win against male canidates and join the team, then they certainly have the RIGHT to play.Obviously if they managed to beat male rivals, then they have "the strength and the quickness of the men"

ur an idiot

Dear "real world" I'm guessing katies a better basketball player than u, and you probably suck, which is y u have to resort to bashing fuure NBA stars. Im better than most guys, and I'm a great ball handler and I see myself a Derek rosish kinda.point guard, so WHY DON'T YOU STFU, I can whoop your fat add in ball.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?

I am a woman basketball player. I think that it is stupid that women can't play in the NBA. I can beat most of the men that I know. There are women out there that can kick butt and they should do it.

It Should Happen

i think girls should have the same opportunity as the boys do in the NBA, both the boys and girls should have the chance/right to have there own opinion and give it a go. :D
—Guest Ash

They could and they cannot!!!!!

Great publicity and controvercial

It may have been a political statement, and a way to stir up wnba sales. However can women compete with males physicality or will the males even play with the same intensity against women? Lets take Candice Parker for example. What an amazing player!! I believe she may be able to compete in the NBA. However, will the athletes in the Nba compete with her? Will this decrease the physicality and passion you see in the sport. I have never seen males play physically with intensity against females in any basketball game. Have you?
—Guest Sky Sunner

Never

They have tried women in the cheryl miller and ann myers and they couldn't perform to that level. I always say it this way " 6'5" Lisa Leslie struggled to get the ball over the rim , 5'6" Spud Webb won the slam dunk competition. " Golf and Auto racing will be two women can compete with men
—Guest Dan

oh, heck no

Woman should have no right and no business playing in the NBA. They don't have the strength and the quickness of the men. They will get embarrassed and abused skill wise. If the NBA allows it it will destroy the integrity of the game and its fan base, trust me. I hope David Stern for once uses some common sense and not allow this to happen. It will be a complete and utter joke.

Probably Not as a Norm

Yes, it could happen and I think the opportunity should not be limited, but the truth is, as tough, strong, and athletic as some women are, our species is dimorphic. Males simply are genetically predisposed to be bigger and more athletic than females. Ergo, those exceptional athletic talents are more likely to be at a higher level in males as opposed to exceptional athleticism levels in females.

Women, not as athletic?

I agree with almost everything you said in your post with the exception of the comment that "women aren't as athletic." While we are smaller and not as absolutely strong, I don't think that men are more athletic. I think pound for pound, women are. I don't have the stats to back this up, but I know a lot of women who can kick butt - there are certainly differences between men and women (thank god), but I think you have to be careful when making a statement like that to think about the criteria you are using. I do think that, at some point, a very few select women will play in the NBA.
